The chip shop owner raised the alarm just before 4.30pm and fire appliances from Barnstaple and one from Braunton responded, with the Barnstaple aerial platform and another appliance from South Molton immediately sent for. The fire started in an extraction unit and spread to the roof space and was threatening neighbouring homes, but no-one was injured.
